HAECO completes first Trent XWB-84 Module 52 swap in Hong Kong

HAECO has completed its first Trent XWB-84 Module 52 swap in Hong Kong, marking a milestone in the expansion of its engine maintenance and support capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region.

Developed in collaboration with Rolls-Royce, the achievement supports HAECO’s “front porch to full house” strategy, which aims to provide flexible engine maintenance services closer to airline operations. The capability is designed to help operators reduce engine downtime, improve turnaround times, and maintain fleet availability.

The project was delivered through coordination between HAECO Global Engine Support and Rolls-Royce. The collaboration included personnel training, tooling and material preparation, and engineering assessments of the relevant maintenance procedures to support the successful completion of the module swap.

George Edmunds, Group Director of Component and Engine Services at HAECO, said the milestone reflects the company’s continued investment in advanced engine services. He added that carrying out the work locally strengthens service flexibility and helps airlines access timely maintenance support while improving cost efficiency.

Maria Deacon, Director of Aftermarket Services at Rolls-Royce, highlighted the benefits of performing maintenance closer to the aircraft. She noted that the approach can reduce turnaround times and minimise engine downtime, allowing Trent XWB-84 engines to return to service sooner and support airline operations.

HAECO provides 24/7 on-wing and near-wing engine services through its Global Engine Support network, with operations based in Hong Kong, Dallas, London and Amsterdam. Its capabilities cover multiple engine types and include engine inspections and repairs, borescope inspections, non-destructive testing, quick-turn shop visits, lease-return support, engine preservation and storage.

The successful Module 52 swap expands HAECO’s local engine support capabilities and strengthens its collaboration with Rolls-Royce in delivering maintenance solutions designed to improve aircraft availability across the region.
