Aeroitalia selects Delta TechOps for Boeing 737 component support

Agreement combines component-sharing arrangements and dedicated spare-parts availability to improve fleet reliability and reduce aircraft downtime

Aeroitalia has selected Delta TechOps to provide component support for its Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) fleet, extending the relationship between the two airlines into maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services. The agreement is intended to improve component availability, reduce replacement-part procurement times and minimise aircraft downtime as Aeroitalia continues to expand its operations.

Announced at MRO Europe in Amsterdam on October 28, the programme will give Aeroitalia access to Delta TechOps’ component maintenance expertise and materials resources. The arrangement combines a component-sharing system with a dedicated spare-parts kit at Aeroitalia’s main base, providing the airline with access to replacement components when required.

The agreement reflects growing demand among European airlines for outsourced component support solutions that can help maintain fleet availability and support operational reliability.

Component support to improve fleet availability

Under the agreement, the component-sharing system and dedicated spare-parts inventory are expected to help Aeroitalia reduce the time required to procure replacement components. Faster access to parts can help limit the time aircraft remain out of service while awaiting maintenance or component replacement.

For airlines operating narrowbody fleets, the availability of serviceable components is an important factor in maintenance planning and operational performance. Delays in sourcing replacement parts can affect aircraft utilisation, disrupt schedules and increase operational costs.

Aeroitalia said the agreement would support improvements in the operational efficiency of its Boeing 737 NG fleet by combining Delta TechOps’ component capabilities with inventory positioned at the airline’s main base.

“Celebrating this partnership at MRO Europe in Amsterdam marks an important milestone for Aeroitalia. Our agreement with Delta TechOps, a leading MRO provider of MRO services, will enable us to improve the operational efficiency of our Boeing 737 NG fleet. By combining a component-sharing system with a dedicated spare parts kit at our main base, we will be able to reduce procurement times for replacement parts, minimise aircraft downtime and increase fleet availability. This will help reduce operational disruptions and it will allow us to offer a more reliable service to our passengers,” said Fabrizio Liberatori, Group Accountable Manager at Aeroitalia.

The arrangement is designed to support both maintenance requirements and day-to-day operational needs by improving access to replacement components and reducing dependence on longer procurement cycles.

Extending the Delta–Aeroitalia relationship

The component support agreement builds on an existing relationship between Delta Air Lines and Aeroitalia. In 2025, Aeroitalia announced new connectivity opportunities linking its domestic Italian network with Delta’s global network.

The latest agreement extends that relationship into technical operations and aircraft maintenance support, establishing a further area of cooperation between the two airlines.

Marc Meredith, Chief Commercial Officer at Delta TechOps, said the company’s experience in supporting Delta’s own airline operations would inform its work with Aeroitalia.

“At Delta, we know firsthand what it takes to run a reliable airline every day,” Meredith said. “As Aeroitalia continues to grow across Italy and Europe, we’re proud to have been selected to support its 737 fleet with the same operational expertise and unwavering focus on safety and performance that power Delta’s own operation.”

The agreement adds to Delta TechOps’ portfolio of commercial MRO customers and follows other component-support agreements with airline customers in Europe and the Americas. It also highlights the role of component support programmes in helping airlines manage maintenance requirements while maintaining aircraft availability.

Delta TechOps expands its commercial MRO business

Delta TechOps has been expanding its commercial MRO business by offering component maintenance and related technical services to airlines beyond Delta Air Lines. The Aeroitalia agreement comes as the business reports continued demand for its maintenance capabilities and operational experience.

Delta recently reported $1 billion in year-to-date MRO revenue, reflecting the scale of its commercial maintenance activities.

The company draws on its experience maintaining Delta’s fleet to support customers across different markets. According to Delta TechOps, it serves more than 150 customers across six continents and processes more than 100,000 aircraft components annually through 25 in-house component shops.

Delta TechOps also describes itself as North America’s largest MRO provider. It states that it is the only provider in the Americas certified to support the CFM LEAP, Pratt & Whitney GTF and Rolls-Royce Trent engine families.

While the Aeroitalia agreement focuses on Boeing 737 NG component support, it adds to the broader range of services through which Delta TechOps is seeking to serve commercial airline customers internationally.

Component availability remains an operational priority

The agreement comes against a backdrop of continued pressure on airline maintenance and supply-chain operations, where timely access to serviceable components is essential to keeping aircraft available for scheduled operations.

Component-sharing arrangements and strategically positioned spare-parts inventories can help airlines improve access to replacement parts and reduce delays associated with sourcing components. Their effectiveness, however, depends on inventory availability, repair turnaround times, logistics and coordination between the airline and its MRO provider.

For Aeroitalia, the partnership with Delta TechOps is intended to strengthen support for its Boeing 737 NG fleet as it develops its network. For Delta TechOps, the agreement represents another commercial airline customer for its component-support business and extends its presence in the European MRO market.
