Teledyne Controls has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for its GroundLink Edge Computing Platform (ECP) for the Boeing 737 aircraft series.
The certification enables airlines to deploy, update and manage onboard software applications remotely through Teledyne’s AppLink cloud service, without requiring aircraft downtime, hardware modifications or separate aircraft-level certification for each new application.
The approval marks the initial certification of GroundLink ECP and establishes a software-defined aircraft data platform for one of the world’s most widely operated commercial aircraft families. Teledyne said certification for additional aircraft types is planned.
GroundLink ECP provides an open onboard edge-computing environment designed to integrate multiple aircraft and connectivity interfaces, including 5G cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and ARINC 429/717. The platform incorporates an ARINC 679- and OCI-compliant application server.
Through the AppLink cloud service, operators can remotely deploy and manage applications developed by airlines, Teledyne or third-party developers. This approach is designed to give operators greater flexibility in introducing new digital capabilities across their fleets while reducing the need for aircraft-level modifications.
The platform can support AI-driven and IoT-connected applications aimed at improving operational efficiency, real-time decision-making and fleet data management.

“By giving operators direct control over onboard applications, ECP unlocks new ways to improve operations, support flight crews and accelerate innovation,” said Mehrdad Radmehr, President of Teledyne Controls.
The Boeing 737 certification represents a significant step toward broader adoption of software-defined aircraft systems, enabling airlines to introduce and scale digital applications across fleets while minimising aircraft downtime and physical modifications.
