Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC) has reached a significant manufacturing milestone with the sale of its 5,000th R44 Raven II helicopter, reinforcing the aircraft’s position as one of the world’s most successful light civil helicopters.
The milestone aircraft has been sold to ARICA, Robinson’s authorised dealership in Ecuador, highlighting the continued global demand for the R44 platform more than three decades after its introduction.
Renowned for its simple design, low operating costs and dependable performance, the R44 Raven II has become a popular choice for a wide range of missions, including pilot training, aerial tours, agricultural operations, news gathering, utility work and private transportation. Today, it remains one of the most widely operated light helicopters in the world.
David Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robinson Helicopter Company, said the achievement reflects the confidence operators continue to place in the aircraft.
“Delivering the 5,000th R44 Raven II reflects the enduring trust operators around the world place in Robinson. The R44 remains the most widely sold and flown light civil helicopter on the planet because it delivers unmatched reliability, low direct operating costs and multi-mission versatility. Whether it is powering flight schools, supporting agricultural operations or serving private and utility operators, the Raven II is the benchmark for modern light rotorcraft,” Smith said.

Robinson Helicopter certified the R44 in 1990 and delivered the first aircraft in 1993. Since then, the helicopter has grown into one of the best-selling rotorcraft in aviation history, with operators in more than 100 countries flying the type.
The R44 family includes several variants, including the Raven I, Clipper I, Raven II, Clipper II, and the Cadet training helicopter, allowing operators to select configurations tailored to different mission requirements.
The company recently introduced a new Utility Interior option for all R44 models, featuring easy-to-clean seating materials and replacing traditional carpet and headliner finishes with more durable surfaces designed for demanding operational environments.
The 5,000th R44 Raven II delivery underscores Robinson Helicopter’s continued leadership in the light civil helicopter market as demand for versatile, cost-effective rotorcraft remains strong across commercial and private aviation sectors.
