TAAG maintains flight operations amid maintenance technicians’ strike

TAAG Angola Airlines maintained its flight schedule without unforeseen cancellations on the second day of a strike by the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Union (STMA), relying on advance planning and operational contingency measures.

On Monday, 12 October, the airline operated 20 domestic flights and 10 regional and international departures from Luanda. TAAG said schedule adjustments were planned in advance, allowing affected passengers to be informed and re-accommodated.

Although occasional technical constraints caused delays, the airline said its contingency plan continued to support operations. The company is monitoring the situation while maintaining compliance with maintenance, airworthiness and safety requirements established by aviation authorities.

The strike highlights the operational relationship between aircraft maintenance staffing and airline schedule reliability. Maintenance technicians play a critical role in inspections, defect rectification and the technical work required to keep aircraft airworthy. Industrial action can therefore place pressure on maintenance resources and operational planning, depending on its scope and duration.

TAAG said passenger safety remains its priority and that flight operations continue under the applicable technical and regulatory requirements.

The situation underscores the importance of contingency planning and coordination between maintenance and flight operations teams during workforce disruptions. However, the airline has not reported specific maintenance backlogs or aircraft availability figures linked to the strike.
