West Star Aviation has received FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) ST00818DE, an Approved Model List (AML) STC covering the installation of Honeywell CD-830 flat-panel displays across more than 40 business aircraft models from five manufacturers.
The STC provides operators with a replacement for legacy Honeywell cathode ray tube (CRT) control display units, including the CD-800, CD-810, CD-815, and CD-820. These older displays are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain as the technology is no longer manufactured and replacement components are harder to source.
The Honeywell CD-830 uses flat-panel LCD technology and is designed as a direct replacement for the legacy CRT units. According to West Star, the installation can generally be completed without major panel modifications, extensive rewiring, or significant aircraft downtime.
The upgrade replaces older CRT hardware with a lighter display that requires less electrical power and provides a longer-term parts support option. It also allows operators to address an ageing avionics component without replacing the wider aircraft system.
Because ST00818DE is an AML STC, the same approved modification can be applied across more than 40 aircraft models from five manufacturers, rather than being limited to a single aircraft type.
The certification package covers aircraft systems integration, electrical compatibility, installation engineering, flight manual documentation, and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), providing the documentation required to support the approved modification.
Avionics obsolescence has become an increasing maintenance issue for business aircraft that remain in service for extended periods. Components that are no longer manufactured can increase repair times and make parts sourcing more difficult, making approved replacement solutions an important part of maintaining older fleets.
The CD-830 installation gives operators a way to replace obsolete CRT displays while retaining the existing installation architecture and extending the service life of the aircraft’s avionics systems.
ST00818DE adds to West Star Aviation‘s existing FAA STC portfolio covering avionics, connectivity, cabin and other aircraft modifications.
