Raghu Vamsi Aerospace to Invest ₹600 Crore in integrated superalloy manufacturing facility in India

Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group has announced plans to invest ₹600 crore in establishing a state-of-the-art integrated superalloy manufacturing facility in Telangana, marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s self-reliance in critical aerospace and defence materials. Announced on the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, the project is expected to enhance the country’s capabilities in producing high-performance nickel-based superalloys that are essential for next-generation aerospace, defence and energy applications.

Spread across a 50-acre site, the new facility will be among the few in India with end-to-end capabilities for manufacturing advanced superalloy products. Commercial production is targeted to commence in January 2028, with an annual production capacity of approximately 5,000 tonnes.

The project will be led by S.K. Jha, former Chairman and Managing Director of Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI), bringing decades of expertise in strategic materials and metallurgical technologies to the initiative.

Building indigenous capability

Nickel-based superalloys are among the most advanced engineering materials used in modern aerospace manufacturing. Designed to withstand extremely high temperatures, pressure and mechanical stress, these alloys are indispensable in the production of aero-engine components, gas turbines and other mission-critical systems.

India currently imports a significant share of its nickel-based alloy requirements, making domestic production strategically important for reducing dependence on overseas suppliers while improving supply chain resilience.

The new facility aims to bridge this gap by producing aerospace-grade superalloys that meet the stringent quality and certification standards required by global aerospace and defence programmes.

Integrated manufacturing

The proposed plant will manufacture a wide range of specialised products, including round bars, wires, forgings, castings, tungsten carbide powders and other high-value engineered materials used across aerospace, defence, nuclear energy, oil and gas, medical technology and emerging hydrogen applications.

One of the defining features of the project is its vertically integrated manufacturing model. The facility will incorporate advanced metallurgical processes under a single roof, including vacuum melting, vacuum casting, forging, heat treatment, powder metallurgy and other specialised forming technologies.

By integrating these capabilities within a single manufacturing ecosystem, the company aims to improve quality control, reduce production lead times and ensure greater consistency in the manufacture of critical aerospace materials.

India’s Aerospace and MRO ecosystem

Beyond supporting original equipment manufacturing, the investment is expected to have significant implications for India’s growing aerospace aftermarket and MRO industry.

Advanced superalloys form the backbone of modern aircraft engines, industrial gas turbines and several high-temperature aerospace systems. Establishing domestic production capability will improve the availability of specialised raw materials required for component manufacturing, repairs, overhaul activities and future engine support programmes.

As India continues to expand its indigenous aerospace manufacturing and MRO capabilities, access to locally produced aerospace-grade materials is expected to become an important enabler for reducing supply chain risks, improving turnaround times and supporting long-term industrial competitiveness.

Vertical integration strategy

According to Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group, the new facility represents a key milestone in the company’s broader strategy of vertical integration across its aerospace, defence and energy businesses.

By producing critical raw materials internally, the company aims to strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem while also supplying advanced superalloys to other domestic aerospace and defence manufacturers. The company said it has already secured customer support for product and process qualification ahead of the plant’s commercial launch, reflecting growing industry confidence in the project’s long-term potential.

Commenting on the announcement, Vamsi Vikas Ganesula, Founder and Managing Director of Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group, described the investment as a strategic initiative that will significantly enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities while providing Indian industry with access to world-class nickel-based superalloys.

He noted that the facility will not only strengthen the company’s integrated manufacturing model but also contribute to building a stronger domestic industrial base for aerospace, defence and other high-technology sectors.

Aerospace Self-Reliance

The announcement comes at a time when global aerospace manufacturers are increasingly focused on strengthening supply chain resilience following years of material shortages and production disruptions. For India, investments in advanced materials manufacturing are becoming a critical pillar of its ambition to emerge as a global aerospace manufacturing and MRO hub.

By establishing one of the country’s few integrated superalloy manufacturing facilities, Raghu Vamsi Aerospace is helping build the industrial foundation needed to support future aircraft production, engine programmes, defence platforms and lifecycle support services. The project is expected to reduce import dependence, expand indigenous manufacturing capability and position India as a more competitive participant in the global aerospace supply chain.
