IAI Aviation Group expands engine MRO capabilities with LEAP support

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Aviation Group is expanding its engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities as airlines face rising engine shop visits, constrained supply chains and growing demand for predictable turnaround times.

The company is increasing its capacity for CFM LEAP engines, expanding in-house component repair capabilities and strengthening its broader engine and component MRO portfolio.

IAI Aviation Group serves as the company’s Center of Excellence for engine, APU, landing gear and component MRO. The integrated structure brings these capabilities under a single engineering organisation, supporting a range of commercial aviation platforms.

A key development is IAI’s expansion into the CFM LEAP market. The company has introduced Quick Turn Shop Visit (QTSV) capability for LEAP engines, with full overhaul capability expected before the end of 2026. IAI said it has already secured contracts with international customers for the programme.

The LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B programmes complement IAI’s existing engine MRO portfolio, which includes the V2500-A5, PW4000-94, CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B. The company’s experience with CFM56 engines provides a technical foundation for its expansion into LEAP MRO.

IAI is also increasing the number of component repairs carried out internally to reduce reliance on external suppliers and improve turnaround times. Its capabilities include low-pressure turbine blade repair, chemical cleaning, non-destructive testing, precision machining, grinding and specialised component restoration.

The company has introduced ultrasonic inspection for V2500 engines and operates six dedicated engine test cells for performance testing. The test infrastructure also supports third-party MRO providers.

Beyond engine overhaul, IAI provides engine leasing and module exchange services to support operators while engines are undergoing maintenance. Its trading activities also cover the purchase and sale of engines and components.

The company’s component MRO portfolio includes avionics, mechanical and pneumatic systems for aircraft including the Boeing 737NG, 737 MAX, Airbus A320 and A330. Its APU and landing gear capabilities are integrated into the wider MRO organisation, with landing gear services including exchange programmes, Access-to-Pool and Home-Base Stock Kit solutions.

IAI also offers different commercial models, including cost-per-hour, fixed-price and time-and-material agreements, allowing operators to structure maintenance support according to their operational and financial requirements.

The company said its combination of aircraft maintenance, passenger-to-freighter conversions, engine and component overhaul, and aftermarket trading enables it to provide integrated support across the aircraft lifecycle.

With LEAP fleets continuing to expand globally, IAI’s investment in engine capacity and in-house repair capabilities is aimed at positioning the company to support growing demand for next-generation commercial engine MRO.
