HAECO expands Hong Kong engine MRO capacity with opening of Fifth engine workshop

HAECO has strengthened its engine maintenance capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region with the inauguration of Engine Workshop No. 5 at its Hong Kong maintenance base, marking a significant expansion of its global engine support network as demand for next-generation engine services continues to grow.

The newly commissioned facility adds three dedicated engine maintenance bays, increasing HAECO’s total engine workshop capacity in Hong Kong from six to nine engine bays. The expanded infrastructure is designed to support a wider range of advanced engine maintenance activities, including Rolls-Royce Trent XWB module swaps and maintenance support for CFM International LEAP engines, two of the industry’s fastest-growing engine platforms.

The investment reflects HAECO’s strategy of expanding its engine support capabilities to meet rising maintenance requirements driven by the increasing number of new-generation aircraft entering service across the region.

Corné van Rooij, General Manager of HAECO Global Engine Support, said the new workshop represents a major milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy.

“Engine Workshop No. 5 represents a significant investment in HAECO Global Engine Support’s future growth in Hong Kong. The additional capacity strengthens our global engine support network and enhances our ability to deliver flexible, efficient and high-quality maintenance solutions to customers across Asia-Pacific, including the Chinese Mainland and beyond,” he said.

The new workshop forms part of HAECO’s “front porch to full house” strategy, an approach aimed at expanding the breadth of engine maintenance solutions available from its Hong Kong base while positioning the company to provide faster and more comprehensive support closer to airline operations.

Beyond increasing physical capacity, the facility has also been developed to support the maintenance of increasingly sophisticated engine technologies. As airlines continue to induct fuel-efficient aircraft powered by advanced engines such as the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB and CFM LEAP, maintenance providers are investing in specialised infrastructure, technical expertise and workforce development to meet the growing complexity of engine repair and overhaul requirements.

The expanded workshop will also play a key role in strengthening HAECO’s technical workforce through specialised training programmes focused on next-generation engine platforms, ensuring the company is equipped to support evolving customer requirements over the long term.

HAECO Global Engine Support currently provides 24/7 on-wing and near-wing engine maintenance services through facilities approved by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA).

Its global engine support portfolio includes on-wing troubleshooting, engine inspections and repairs, engine storage, lease return support, borescope inspections, general visual inspections, inventory assessments and engine preservation services. These capabilities support operators across Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas, enabling airlines to minimise aircraft downtime and improve fleet availability.

The expansion comes at a time when the global engine aftermarket is experiencing unprecedented demand. Supply chain constraints, limited shop visit capacity and the rapid growth of fleets powered by new-generation engines have placed increasing pressure on MRO providers to expand infrastructure and technical capabilities. Against this backdrop, HAECO’s latest investment not only strengthens its position as a leading engine support provider in Asia-Pacific but also enhances the region’s ability to meet the long-term maintenance requirements of modern commercial aircraft fleets.
