Boeing and Lufthansa Technik Defense have signed an agreement to establish the framework for sustaining Germany’s future fleet of CH-47F Block II Chinook heavy-lift helicopters, marking a significant expansion of Lufthansa Technik’s defence MRO capabilities.
Signed during the Farnborough International Airshow, the agreement lays the foundation for a future long-term sustainment contract under which Boeing and Lufthansa Technik will develop an integrated network of parts warehouses across Germany to support the German Armed Forces’ Chinook operating bases. The initiative aims to enhance fleet availability through comprehensive spare parts logistics, warehousing and supply chain support.
The partnership will leverage the logistics expertise of Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services alongside Boeing’s platform knowledge to deliver tailored spare parts provisioning, transportation and warehousing solutions. Lufthansa Technik is also expected to manage the supply of Consumables and Expendables (C&E) for the German Chinook fleet.
“This agreement marks an important step forward in ensuring sustained readiness of the German CH-47F Chinook fleet across different bases,” said Torbjorn “Turbo” Sjogren, Vice President and General Manager, Boeing Global Services – Government Services. “By combining Boeing’s sustainment expertise with Lufthansa Technik’s logistics and MRO capabilities, we will establish a resilient solution to maximize aircraft availability.”

For Lufthansa Technik, the programme represents a strategic milestone as the CH-47F Chinook is set to become the first rotary-wing aircraft to enter the company’s MRO portfolio.
Michael von Puttkamer, Senior Vice President, Special Aircraft & Defense, Lufthansa Technik, said the agreement highlights the company’s growing role in defence sustainment. “This agreement is a significant milestone, making the Chinook the first-ever rotary-wing aircraft to join Lufthansa Technik’s MRO portfolio. With our tailored parts logistics expertise, we will contribute to ensuring the high level of operational readiness required for the sovereign German sustainment of the U.S.-procured Chinook fleet. The resilience of the parts supply chain is key to this effort, and our logistics concepts are designed to minimise spare-parts-related downtime.”
The Chinook sustainment agreement further strengthens the collaboration between Boeing and Lufthansa Technik Defense in supporting German military platforms acquired through the US Foreign Military Sales programme. The two companies are already working together on comprehensive sustainment services for the German Navy’s P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, covering aircraft maintenance, component support, engine condition monitoring, technical training and qualification to improve fleet readiness and operational availability.
