Barnes Aerospace has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to explore expanding its aerospace manufacturing, aftermarket component repair and overhaul, engineering and technology capabilities in Singapore.
The agreement builds on Barnes Aerospace’s more than three decades of operations in Singapore and its ongoing collaboration with the EDB. Under the MOU, the company will work with partners across Singapore’s aerospace and technology ecosystem to assess opportunities for advanced aeroengine component manufacturing and repair, while improving productivity across its existing facilities.
The companies will also explore establishing Singapore as Barnes Aerospace’s Asia-Pacific Engineering Centre of Excellence for new repair development and new-part manufacturing. The proposed expansion could also position Singapore as a regional hub for supply chain, information technology and commercial operations.
As part of the initiative, Barnes Aerospace is evaluating the establishment of a regional Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence focused on developing and deploying AI-enabled solutions for engineering, manufacturing and repair operations.

The company also plans to leverage Singapore’s technology ecosystem, including continued engagement with the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), as it assesses potential investments and new capabilities.
“Singapore’s established aerospace ecosystem and technology infrastructure make it an important location for that work,” said Lee Brough, President of EMEA & Asia for Barnes Aerospace. “We are evaluating how advanced engineering, automation, artificial intelligence and new repair technologies can help us increase productivity, accelerate the development of new capabilities, and create additional value for our customers.”
Barnes Aerospace expanded its Singapore footprint in 2024 with the opening of a 2,400-square-metre component repair facility at Seletar Aerospace Park. The facility increased the company’s capacity for aeroengine aftermarket component repair and complements its existing MRO facility at Loyang and manufacturing operations at Changi North Crescent.
According to the EDB, the planned investments are expected to bring additional aerospace MRO and manufacturing technologies and engineering capabilities to Singapore’s aerospace ecosystem, alongside potential development of AI and automation solutions.
The proposed expansion forms part of Barnes Aerospace’s wider Asia-Pacific growth strategy as demand increases for new-part manufacturing and repair solutions for next-generation aeroengine platforms. The company is targeting growth across both original equipment (OE) manufacturing and aftermarket component repair and overhaul through investments in manufacturing capacity, technology, digital transformation and operational capabilities.
