Air Cambodia has signed a purchase agreement with Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) for 20 C909 regional jets, becoming the first foreign flag carrier to place a bulk order for the Chinese-built aircraft.
The agreement was signed in Shanghai on July 17, with deliveries scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026. The new aircraft will support Air Cambodia’s regional network expansion and strengthen its fleet as passenger demand continues to grow.
Ahead of the signing ceremony, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with executives from COMAC and Air Cambodia, welcoming the successful introduction of the C909 into Cambodia’s aviation market. He also expressed support for deeper cooperation between the parties, including initiatives to develop aviation talent and strengthen the country’s civil aviation industry.
The C909, formerly marketed as the ARJ21, entered commercial service in 2016. COMAC has delivered 186 aircraft to more than 10 operators, with the fleet carrying over 37 million passengers across more than 860 routes.
The aircraft’s international footprint continues to expand across Southeast Asia, where the C909 now operates on 25 routes connecting 28 cities and has transported more than one million passengers, reflecting COMAC’s growing presence in overseas markets.
