Tata Projects partners with MDS Aero Support to advance aero-engine testing infrastructure in India

Tata Projects has entered into a strategic partnership with Canada-based MDS Aero Support Corporation to support the development of advanced aero-engine testing infrastructure in India.

The collaboration brings together Tata Projects’ capabilities in large-scale infrastructure development with MDS Aero Support’s expertise in the design and delivery of gas turbine engine test facilities and systems.

The companies said the partnership is aimed at supporting India’s growing aerospace and propulsion ecosystem, as the country expands capabilities across aircraft manufacturing, engine development, testing and advanced aerospace technologies.

Under the partnership, Tata Projects will be responsible for key infrastructure elements associated with engine test facilities. Its scope will include civil and structural works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems, high-air-pressure systems, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), high-temperature exhaust systems, cooling-water systems and associated site infrastructure.

MDS Aero Support will contribute its specialised expertise in the design, engineering, supply, integration, commissioning and lifecycle support of advanced gas turbine engine testing facilities and systems.

Supporting India’s growing propulsion ecosystem

The partnership comes as India seeks to expand its domestic aerospace and propulsion capabilities, creating greater demand for specialised infrastructure to test, validate and support increasingly complex engines and components.

Engine test facilities are a critical part of the aerospace development cycle, enabling manufacturers and operators to assess engine performance and components under controlled conditions. Developing such infrastructure in India could therefore support activities across both civil and defence aerospace.

Rajiv Menon, President and Chief Growth and Strategy Officer, Tata Projects, said India’s aerospace ecosystem is entering a new phase, with growing ambitions in aircraft manufacturing, propulsion, testing and advanced technologies. He added that the infrastructure supporting these capabilities would be equally important.

Combining local infrastructure with global testing expertise

The partnership combines Tata Projects’ ability to execute complex infrastructure projects in India with MDS Aero Support’s international experience in gas turbine engine testing.

Joe Hajjar, Chief Revenue Officer, MDS Aero Support Corporation, said the companies would bring together local execution capability and global engine-testing expertise to support the growth of India’s aerospace sector, while also strengthening aerospace and technology ties between Canada and India.

Founded in 1985, MDS Aero Support has delivered gas turbine engine testing projects in more than 27 countries. The company has developed turnkey test capabilities for engine components serving the aviation, defence and industrial sectors.

For India’s aerospace industry, the development of advanced testing infrastructure could become an important enabler as domestic manufacturing and propulsion programmes mature. Beyond the development of engines themselves, access to specialised test facilities is essential for validation, performance assessment, component testing and long-term technical support.

The Tata Projects–MDS Aero Support partnership therefore brings together two complementary capabilities, infrastructure delivery and specialist engine-testing technology, with the objective of strengthening the facilities needed to support India’s evolving aerospace and propulsion landscape.
