SAE secures 12-Year Cebu Pacific MRO contract for seven A320s

Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus, has secured a 12-year aircraft maintenance and end-of-lease (EOL) services contract with Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific covering seven Airbus A320 aircraft.

Under the agreement, the aircraft will undergo maintenance and EOL work at SAE’s facility at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) between 2027 and 2028. The contract was announced during MRO Asia-Pacific in Singapore on September 23.

The agreement further strengthens the established relationship between SAE and Cebu Pacific. SAE has previously supported the airline with heavy maintenance and ad hoc EOL checks, aircraft engine changes, and skin panel replacement work.

In addition to work carried out at its KLIA facility, SAE has supported Cebu Pacific’s maintenance operations in Manila, deploying engineers on-site to assist with the carrier’s fleet as required.

“SAE and Cebu Pacific have developed a strong collaborative relationship,” said Burhanudin Noordin Ali, General Manager of SAE and Airbus Country Representative for Malaysia.

“This latest agreement is a clear sign of trust and confidence placed by the carrier in the work we do. We appreciate Cebu Pacific’s continued support for SAE.”

For Cebu Pacific, the agreement forms part of its ongoing efforts to maintain the safety, airworthiness and reliability of its fleet, while also ensuring aircraft are prepared for return to their lessors.

“Our continued partnership with Sepang Aircraft Engineering provides us with trusted MRO expertise to support the maintenance and airworthiness of our A320 fleet,” said Shevantha Weerasekera, Vice President for Engineering and Fleet Management of Cebu Pacific.

“As we prepare the aircraft for return to its lessor, working with experienced maintenance partners allows us to ensure that the aircraft is maintained to the required standards and remains in optimal condition for a smooth and efficient redelivery.”

SAE provides MRO services for commercial aircraft, engines and components from its facility at KLIA. The facility comprises two hangars with a combined area of approximately 50,000 square metres and can accommodate up to eight aircraft simultaneously for major maintenance checks.

The latest Cebu Pacific contract adds to SAE’s portfolio of heavy maintenance and EOL support and further underlines the role of its KLIA facility in supporting A320-family fleet maintenance and aircraft redelivery requirements in the Asia-Pacific region.
