Chromalloy gains FAA PMA for V2500 HPT Stage 1 blade

Chromalloy has received FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for a new high-pressure turbine (HPT) Stage 1 blade for the V2500 Select engine.

The approval is the fifth V2500 PMA component developed by Chromalloy under its agreement with Lufthansa Technik. Lufthansa Technik is the launch customer for the new blade.

Chromalloy has invested more than $100 million in the component’s design, development, and certification, as well as manufacturing capabilities in the Tampa, Florida area. The investment covers smelting, casting, machining, and coating operations supporting production of the blade.

“This fifth approval reflects significant engineering investment and the strength of our relationship with Lufthansa Technik,” said Chromalloy Chief Executive Officer Chris Celtruda. “Chromalloy remains at the forefront of innovative aftermarket solutions for high-value engine airfoil applications, and we’re proud to keep expanding the value we deliver to Lufthansa Technik, our launch customer, and other airline operators and MROs across the globe.”

The HPT Stage 1 blade required new anti-corrosion and multilayer thermal barrier coating capabilities. These processes are being incorporated into Chromalloy’s production operations as the company prepares to increase output.

Production is expected to ramp up through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, with initial shipments to Lufthansa Technik planned in the near term.

Sebastian Hagenmueller, Head of Product V2500 Overhaul at Lufthansa Technik, said, “Achieving this FAA approval is another important milestone in our successful collaboration with Chromalloy, with direct benefits for our customers. Each new approval adds a proven, cost-efficient option for their V2500 fleets. We are pleased to bring this offering to market together with Chromalloy.”

The new PMA component provides V2500 operators and MRO providers with an additional approved source for HPT Stage 1 blades during engine maintenance and overhaul.

Chromalloy’s V2500 HPT blade manufacturing activities are carried out across its facilities in Palm Beach Gardens, Tampa, and Oldsmar, Florida. The company also expects additional components for midlife V2500 engines to enter FAA review later in 2026.
