Safran, Lufthansa Technik sign 10-year Airbus landing gear support agreement

Safran Landing Systems and Lufthansa Technik have signed a 10-year Support and Services Agreement (SSA) to strengthen maintenance support for Airbus aircraft landing gear and hydraulic equipment, reinforcing their long-standing collaboration in the global aftermarket.

Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, the agreement covers the Airbus A320 family, A330, A340 and A350 programmes and is aimed at enhancing maintenance efficiency, component support and operational continuity across Lufthansa Technik’s worldwide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network.

Under the long-term partnership, Safran Landing Systems will provide Lufthansa Technik with comprehensive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) support, including certified spare parts, engineering expertise, technical assistance and access to the latest maintenance documentation. The collaboration is expected to optimise maintenance planning, improve component repair capabilities and strengthen fleet support for Airbus operators worldwide.

A key element of the agreement is the expansion of A350 landing gear MRO capabilities at Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear Services UK in London. The partnership will provide direct access to Safran’s latest repair solutions and technical data, enabling the facility to support the growing global A350 fleet with enhanced OEM-backed maintenance services.

The agreement will also ensure continued support for legacy Airbus platforms, including the A320 family, A330 and A340, through Lufthansa Technik’s landing gear maintenance centre in Hamburg, supporting operators as these aircraft continue to remain in service across global fleets.

Berit Plewinsky, Vice President Aircraft Component Services at Lufthansa Technik, said the agreement reflects the value of combining independent MRO expertise with OEM capabilities. “This Support and Services Agreement exemplifies the best of our MRO world by combining the specialised knowledge and skills of the Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear network with the OEM expertise of Safran Landing Systems. Together, we can better serve our customers and ensure market demand is met with the highest professional standards,” she said.

Darren Waite, Executive Vice President, Customer Support & Services at Safran Landing Systems, said the partnership builds on years of successful collaboration between the two companies. “This agreement reflects the trust built between our companies over several years of collaboration. Through this partnership, Safran Landing Systems will provide Lufthansa Technik with OEM expertise, reliable spare parts and technical support to help maintain and enhance Airbus fleets worldwide,” he said.

The agreement highlights the growing importance of closer collaboration between OEMs and independent MRO providers as airlines seek greater fleet availability, faster turnaround times and long-term lifecycle support. By combining OEM engineering expertise with Lufthansa Technik’s global maintenance network, the partnership is expected to deliver more efficient landing gear services while supporting the increasing maintenance requirements of both next-generation and legacy Airbus aircraft.
