Three-year agreement covers 18 additional CFM56-5B shop visits as airline transitions to next-generation A320neo fleet
Cebu Pacific has strengthened its long-standing maintenance partnership with Lufthansa Technik by signing a new multi-year agreement covering 18 additional CFM56-5B engine shop visits, ensuring continued support for the airline’s Airbus A320ceo fleet as it progresses with its transition to next-generation A320neo aircraft.
The three-year contract marks the final engine maintenance programme for Cebu Pacific’s legacy CFM56-powered narrowbody fleet, while reinforcing Lufthansa Technik’s role as a strategic aftermarket partner supporting the airline’s operational reliability and fleet availability.
Under the agreement, the CFM56-5B engines will undergo comprehensive maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) at Lufthansa Technik’s engine facilities in Hamburg, Germany, and Dublin, Ireland. The scope of work will include services ranging from performance restoration and module repairs to complete engine overhauls, ensuring the engines remain airworthy throughout the remaining operational life of the A320ceo fleet.
The first engine covered under the new contract is expected to arrive at Lufthansa Technik’s Dublin facility by the end of the month.
The agreement comes as Cebu Pacific continues modernising its narrowbody fleet with Airbus A320neo-family aircraft equipped with new-generation engines, while maintaining high levels of reliability and operational efficiency across its existing fleet during the transition period.
Commenting on the partnership, Mike Szucs, Chief Executive Officer of Cebu Pacific, said maintaining high standards of safety, airworthiness and operational performance remains central to the airline’s maintenance strategy.
“As we continue to expand our fleet, we seek partners who share our commitment to excellence, innovation and continuous improvement. Lufthansa Technik has consistently demonstrated these values throughout our long-standing relationship. We see them not simply as an MRO provider, but as a strategic partner that understands our business, supports our operational objectives and helps enable our long-term growth plans,” Szucs said.
Dennis Kohr, Senior Vice President Corporate Sales Asia-Pacific at Lufthansa Technik, said securing another engine maintenance agreement reflects the strength of the companies’ long-term collaboration. “Winning our third engine maintenance contract with Cebu Pacific is a significant milestone for our team. It reflects the trust we have built over many years and reinforces our commitment to delivering best-in-class engine MRO services as the airline continues expanding and modernising its fleet,” Kohr said.
A decade-long technical partnership
The latest engine agreement builds upon more than a decade of collaboration between the two organisations across multiple areas of aircraft maintenance and technical support.
In addition to engine overhaul services, Cebu Pacific has relied on Lufthansa Technik Philippines for base maintenance support in Manila, while also utilising the company’s capabilities in airframe component repairs, consumables and expendables management, Cyclean engine wash services and aircraft transition support.
The partnership also extends into digital maintenance operations through Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem, with Cebu Pacific deploying AMOS maintenance and engineering software alongside flydocs digital asset management solutions to improve maintenance planning, technical documentation and aircraft records management.
The agreement highlights the continued importance of supporting legacy engine platforms even as airlines introduce newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft. While Cebu Pacific continues expanding its A320neo fleet, its CFM56-powered Airbus A320ceo aircraft remain an important part of its operations. Strategic engine maintenance programmes help maximise engine performance, minimise unscheduled removals and extend service life until aircraft retirement or fleet replacement.

The agreement also reflects a broader industry trend where airlines increasingly seek integrated aftermarket partnerships that combine engine overhaul, component support, digital maintenance solutions and technical services under long-term performance-based contracts.
As global operators continue balancing fleet renewal with the efficient management of mature aircraft, collaborations between airlines and leading independent MRO providers will remain essential in maintaining fleet reliability, reducing lifecycle costs and ensuring high aircraft availability throughout fleet transition programmes.
