Thales digitise Royal Air Maroc flight operations

Thales has signed a five-year agreement with Royal Air Maroc to deploy its AvioBook Flight electronic flight bag (EFB) solution across the airline’s aircraft, adding digital flight operations technology to a partnership that already includes maintenance and cybersecurity.

Developed by AvioBook, a Thales Group company, AvioBook Flight supports pilots before, during, and after flights by consolidating operational functions within a digital platform. The software is designed to streamline workflows between flight crews and ground staff, integrate with airline back-office systems and support operational compliance.

For airlines managing expanding fleets, integrated digital tools can help standardise flight preparation, operational documentation and information exchange across daily operations. Thales says the AvioBook Flight deployment will support Royal Air Maroc’s operational efficiency, fuel optimisation and turnaround processes, while providing technology redundancy and resilience.

The agreement comes as Royal Air Maroc pursues plans to grow its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037. As the carrier expands, consistent digital processes across its aircraft will become increasingly important to managing operational complexity and coordinating flight and ground activities.

AvioBook has implemented its solutions at 70 airlines worldwide. Its platform is designed to integrate with existing back-office systems and adapt to airline workflows, although Thales has not specified the implementation schedule or individual aircraft types covered by the Royal Air Maroc deployment.

The contract also extends a broader relationship between Thales and Royal Air Maroc, which includes in-flight entertainment, maintenance, and cybersecurity. While AvioBook Flight is focused on flight operations rather than aircraft maintenance, its integration into the airline’s digital environment adds another element to the carrier’s wider technology infrastructure.

Frédéric Dru, CEO of AvioBook, a Thales Group company, said, “We are proud to provide Royal Air Maroc with our market-leading software solutions that align with the airline’s ambitious digitalisation and expansion plans as they grow their fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037. We look forward to contributing to the airline’s evolution, positioning high technology at the heart of its development.”

Yan Levy, CEO of Thales in Morocco, said, “This agreement reflects Thales’ long-standing commitment to Morocco and to supporting the Kingdom’s ambitions. As Royal Air Maroc pursues its fleet expansion and strengthens its role as a leading carrier, we are proud to contribute with scalable digital solutions that enhance competitiveness, operational excellence and sustainability. Through innovation and local engagement, Thales remains fully aligned with Morocco’s vision for a modern, resilient and globally connected aviation sector.”

The five-year agreement broadens Thales’ role in Royal Air Maroc’s digital operations as the airline prepares for long-term fleet growth. For the MRO sector, the announcement also illustrates how digital platforms are becoming part of the wider operational technology environment surrounding airline fleets, alongside dedicated maintenance and technical support systems.
