GKN Aerospace begins $16 million expansion of North Charlestown facility

GKN Aerospace has begun construction on a $16 million expansion of its North Charlestown facility in New Hampshire, increasing manufacturing capacity for aero-engine components as demand from its engine customers continues to grow.

The expansion will add approximately 57,000 square feet to the site, increasing its total footprint to nearly 97,000 square feet. The additional space will support increased production, workforce growth and a broader range of manufacturing activities.

The project will introduce new capabilities including turning operations, surface finishing and non-destructive testing (NDT). Bringing these processes into the facility is expected to allow GKN Aerospace to handle more manufacturing activities in-house while improving production efficiency and reducing lead times.

Joakim Andersson, President of Engines at GKN Aerospace, said the investment will increase the company’s US capacity and strengthen its ability to respond to rising demand from engine customers.

Tomas Lindsta, Senior Vice President, OE Product Solutions at GKN Aerospace, said the expanded facility will provide additional space to increase production capacity, grow the workforce, and develop employee skills.

The expansion is the next phase of an investment announced earlier this year and is intended to support the company’s long-term growth in the aero-engine components market.

New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte also highlighted the investment’s role in supporting the state’s aerospace and defence sector, particularly through workforce development and expanded career opportunities.

Once completed, the expanded North Charlestown facility will provide GKN Aerospace with increased capacity and additional manufacturing capabilities to support its engine component operations in the United States.
