Finnair to boost regional fleet with Embraer and ATR lease agreements

Finnair has signed letters of intent to lease two Embraer E190-E1 and two ATR 72-600 aircraft to bolster its regional flight operations. The aircraft are scheduled to join the fleet of Finnair’s partner, Norra, between the summer and early autumn of 2026.

The move marks a strategic expansion of Finnair’s regional capabilities. Norra currently operates a fleet of twelve Embraer E190-E1s and twelve ATR 72-500s on behalf of the Finnish flag carrier. With this new agreement, Finnair plans to eventually increase the total number of jets operated by Norra to eighteen.

Christine Rovelli, Chief Revenue Officer at Finnair, emphasized that a robust regional network is vital for the airline’s growth in key markets. She noted that the additional aircraft will enhance schedule reliability and provide greater flexibility for fleet deployment. The expansion comes as Finnair prepares to serve more than 90 European destinations in the Summer 2026 season, including 12 newly added routes.
