Avincis partners with De Havilland to strengthen firefighting aircraft MRO capabilities

Avincis has entered into a strategic partnership with De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited to support the global fleet of CL-series firefighting aircraft, including the CL-215, CL-215T, CL-415 and the upcoming DHC-515.

Under the agreement, Avincis will play a key role as an MRO partner, supporting design, engineering and modification activities for the CL aircraft family. The collaboration will also see Avincis’ upgrades and modifications integrated into De Havilland Canada’s global aftermarket parts catalogue, enhancing access to critical components and solutions for operators worldwide.

The partnership builds on Avincis’ extensive operational and maintenance experience, particularly as one of the largest operators of CL-415 firefighting aircraft globally. The company has been operating and maintaining these aircraft for over two decades, providing aerial firefighting services across Europe.

A key focus of the collaboration is to improve lifecycle support for ageing firefighting fleets while also preparing for the next-generation DHC-515 aircraft. De Havilland Canada is currently investing in modernisation programmes for the CL-415 and advancing development of the DHC-515, aimed at enhancing operational capability and long-term sustainability of aerial firefighting platforms.

In addition to engineering and aftermarket integration, Avincis is also planning to develop a dedicated hangar facility at its Albacete base in Spain to support expanded maintenance and modification activities. This infrastructure expansion underscores the growing importance of specialised MRO capabilities in mission-critical aviation segments such as aerial firefighting.

The partnership reflects a broader trend in the MRO industry, where OEMs and operators are increasingly collaborating to integrate design, modification and aftermarket support into a unified ecosystem. By combining Avincis’ operational expertise with De Havilland Canada’s manufacturing and product support capabilities, the initiative aims to deliver more efficient, reliable and scalable maintenance solutions for firefighting aircraft operators globally.

As climate-related risks continue to drive demand for aerial firefighting services, such collaborations are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring fleet readiness, operational efficiency, and long-term asset sustainability.
