AEME GSE, JinkoSolar partner to develop Zero-Carbon airport and MRO hangar

AEME GSE and JinkoSolar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop integrated green energy solutions for zero-carbon airports and MRO hangars, supporting the aviation industry’s transition towards electrification and net-zero emissions.

The partnership combines AEME GSE’s expertise in airport ground support equipment (GSE), battery energy storage systems (BESS), airport microgrids and smart energy management with JinkoSolar’s advanced photovoltaic (PV) technologies and large-scale solar energy integration capabilities. Together, the companies will develop integrated airport energy systems that combine anti-glare solar PV modules, energy storage systems and ground power units (GPUs) to improve energy efficiency while reducing carbon emissions.

AEME GSE has been developing sustainable airport energy solutions since 2016, with pilot solar-plus-storage projects at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Dalian International Airport. By the end of 2024, the system at Chengdu Shuangliu had accumulated approximately 175,000 operating hours, enabling airlines to save around US$2 million in energy costs while demonstrating the operational viability of renewable energy solutions for airport infrastructure. The company has since expanded its green energy offerings to major airports and MRO facilities across multiple regions.

JinkoSolar brings extensive experience in solar technology, having shipped more than 400 GW of PV modules globally. Its anti-glare, low-reflection photovoltaic modules, already deployed at Taiyuan Wusu International Airport, are specifically designed to meet the stringent safety requirements of airport operations by minimising reflected sunlight while maintaining high power generation efficiency.

Yu Zhao, Vice President of Global Business and Head of Brand Marketing at AEME GSE, said airports and aircraft hangars worldwide are increasingly adopting electrification strategies and targeting net-zero emissions by 2030. He noted that the partnership with JinkoSolar will help airports establish integrated green energy ecosystems capable of addressing challenges related to charging infrastructure, carbon reduction and digital energy management.

Ted Wang, Head of the China Cross-Region Team at JinkoSolar, said the company’s expertise in photovoltaic research and development, combined with its anti-glare module technology, provides a safe and efficient solution for civil aviation applications. He added that the collaboration with AEME GSE’s global network will accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy solutions at airports and hangars worldwide.

According to the companies, the agreement positions AEME GSE as the first supplier to offer an end-to-end airport energy ecosystem covering renewable power generation, energy storage, electric charging infrastructure and ground support equipment. As airports continue to pursue decarbonisation and electrification strategies, the partnership aims to support the transition from conventional power systems to integrated, low-carbon and energy-efficient airport infrastructure, benefiting both airport operators and MRO facilities.
