Ethiopian Airlines Group has signed an agreement with Boeing for eight 777-8F and two 777F freighters, strengthening its cargo fleet and supporting the expansion of its global logistics network.
The agreement will add the latest-generation Boeing 777-8F alongside additional 777F capacity as the airline responds to growing demand for international air cargo services.
The 777-8F, part of Boeing’s 777X family, offers a maximum structural payload of 118 tonnes, along with increased range and fuel-efficiency improvements. Boeing says the aircraft is designed to deliver lower operating costs per tonne and reduced emissions compared with previous-generation freighters.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates 12 Boeing 777F, two Boeing 767 and four Boeing 737-8F freighters, serving more than 70 cargo destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.

The fleet expansion will increase Ethiopian Airlines’ cargo capacity while also creating additional requirements across freighter maintenance, engineering support, component services and other MRO activities as the new aircraft enter service.
The agreement also makes Ethiopian Airlines the first African carrier to order the Boeing 777-8F, according to Boeing, marking another step in the airline’s long-term cargo fleet development strategy.
