Safran expands landing gear MRO capacity in Singapore

Safran Landing Systems has expanded its Singapore MRO facility with a new assembly line for landing gear overhauls, adding capacity for commercial aircraft operators across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

The US$22 million expansion adds a 7,500-square-metre extension to Safran’s Singapore site, including a dedicated landing gear overhaul assembly line. The facility provides end-to-end MRO services covering disassembly, inspection, machining, surface treatment, assembly and final certification.

The site supports landing systems for the Airbus A320 family, A330, A350, A380 and Boeing 737 and 787, as well as ATR regional aircraft.

Established in 1979, the Singapore facility has been a strategic partner of SIA Engineering Company since 2000 and serves as Safran Landing Systems’ main regional MRO facility.

The expansion will also introduce additional repair capabilities and advanced repair technologies. Safran currently employs around 360 people at the site and expects to add nearly 100 jobs by 2030.

François Bastin, CEO, Safran Landing Systems, highlighted, “Today’s inauguration marks a proud milestone, achieved thanks to the collective commitment of our teams, partners, and the local community, built over decades here in Singapore. This investment is a strong signal of Safran Landing Systems’ trust in the region’s potential and deepens our determination to support our airline customers, now and in the future, with ever higher standards of excellence and sustainability.”

The facility expansion also includes 2,800 square metres of solar panels, comprising 800 panels, alongside energy-efficient lighting and cooling systems. The solar installation is expected to generate electricity equivalent to around 60% of the site’s consumption.

“The latest expansion by Safran Landing Systems brings advanced repair technologies to Singapore and adds to our comprehensive suite of MRO offerings. We value Safran’s confidence in Singapore and look forward to working with them to develop the next generation aerospace technologies here, create good jobs and rewarding career pathways for Singaporeans,” said Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President, Singapore Economic Development Board.
