Avolon orders 250 new aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, expanding commitments to 749

Avolon has placed firm orders for 250 new-technology aircraft with Airbus and Boeing, strengthening its long-term delivery pipeline as airlines renew and expand their fleets. The orders comprise 140 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 110 Airbus aircraft, including 75 A320neo family and 35 A330neo family aircraft. The Airbus agreement also includes options for a further 100 aircraft.

The new commitments increase Avolon’s total firm aircraft commitments to 749. The orders remain subject to approval by the shareholders of Bohai Leasing Co., Ltd., Avolon’s 70% shareholder, with approval expected before the end of October 2026.

The announcement coincides with Avolon’s third-quarter 2026 business update, which reflects continued activity across aircraft placements, leasing and trading. During the quarter, the company acquired 10 aircraft and sold 29, with a further 112 aircraft agreed for sale at quarter-end. It also placed 28 new-technology aircraft from its commitments, ending the period with 89% of its committed fleet placed for the next 24 months.

Avolon executed 84 lease agreements, extensions and amendments during the quarter. Its owned, managed and committed fleet stood at 1,092 aircraft at quarter-end, rising to 1,342 aircraft pro forma for the new orders.

The company also reported two financing developments: the establishment of a US$1.5 billion commercial paper programme and the closing of a US$855 million unsecured term loan with a syndicate of primarily Asian banks.

Commenting on the orders, Avolon CEO Andy Cronin said demand for new-technology aircraft remained strong, as reflected in the company’s placement and trading activity. He said the agreements with Airbus and Boeing strengthen and extend Avolon’s delivery pipeline and support airline customers as they renew and expand their fleets with more fuel-efficient aircraft.
