CDB Aviation Delivers First Boeing 737-8 to TAROM

CDB Aviation has delivered the first Boeing 737-8 to Romanian flag carrier TAROM, introducing the next-generation narrowbody aircraft to the airline’s fleet as part of its ongoing fleet renewal programme.

The aircraft is the first of two 737-8s that TAROM is leasing from CDB Aviation. The Bucharest-based airline plans to introduce four 737-8 aircraft through a combination of operating and finance leases, supporting its broader restructuring and fleet modernisation strategy.

The 737-8 is intended to improve TAROM’s operational efficiency while supporting its plans to optimise routes and enhance the passenger experience. The airline is expected to deploy the new aircraft on services connecting Romania with major European capitals.

CDB Aviation Head of Commercial, EMEA, Gavan Daly said the delivery supports TAROM’s fleet modernisation plans and reflects the lessor’s ongoing relationship with the airline and Boeing.

TAROM CEO Cristian Anghel described the arrival of the first 737-8 as an important milestone in the airline’s transformation, with fleet renewal and increased capacity forming key elements of its restructuring programme.

The aircraft is designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared with previous-generation models. TAROM said the 737-8 will help reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20%, while providing enhanced operational performance and passenger comfort.

The first aircraft also carries the name Mircea Lucescu, adding a symbolic element to its entry into TAROM’s fleet. The second 737-8 from CDB Aviation is expected to be delivered in autumn.
