The first day of the “WINGS India 2024” saw big announcements from aviation giants of India and around the globe with companies like Boeing, Airbus and Mahindra Aerostructures signing contracts that will provide a huge boost to the Indian aviation sector. This prime aviation event is being held at the aerospace hub city of  Hyderabad which is also the capital city of the rapidly growing state of Telangana in the Southern part of India. The event will be held on 18-21 January 2024. 

Here are some of the top announcements form the day

  • Knowledge Report Unveiled: FICCI and KPMG unveiled a comprehensive knowledge report titled “Connecting India to the World in Amrit Kaal,” providing a detailed outlook on India’s global aviation strategy by 2047. The report aims to serve as a roadmap for the country’s aviation sector.
  • UDAN 5.3 Scheme Introduced: The government introduced the UDAN 5.3 scheme, a pivotal move to enhance regional air connectivity. The scheme incorporates demand-driven mechanisms and focuses on the development of airstrips and helipads, addressing the growing need for accessible air travel in remote areas.

Airbus-Air India Training Centre:

  • Airbus and Air India have joined forces to establish a state-of-the-art flight training center in Gurugram. This collaborative effort aims to meet the rising demand for skilled pilots in the aviation industry, providing top-notch training facilities and contributing to the overall development of aviation talent.
  • Airbus and Air India Limited India to open Tata Airbus Training Centre in Gurgaon in a 50:50 joint venture. The pilot training centre will have 10 simulators and offer Airbus A320 and A350 training to 5000 pilots over 10 years.
  • Airbus Manufacturing Contracts: TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TATA ASL) and Mahindra Aerospace have entered into significant manufacturing contracts as part of the ‘Make In India’ initiative. These contracts, formed in collaboration with Airbus, underscore a commitment to domestic production of commercial aircraft components, fostering self-reliance in the aerospace sector.
  • GMR-IndiGo Consortium: GMR and IndiGo have forged a strategic consortium to digitally reshape India’s aviation landscape. The collaboration is set to drive improvements in passenger services, enhance operational efficiency, and contribute to sustainability goals, marking a significant step toward the modernization of the aviation sector.
  • GMR School of Aviation Inaugurated: In alignment with the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” initiative, GMR School of Aviation has been inaugurated. This educational institution is poised to play a crucial role in nurturing skilled professionals for the aviation industry, contributing to the vision of a self-reliant India.
  • Akasa Air’s Boeing Deal: Akasa Air, recognized as India’s fastest-growing airline, has made a historic move by tripling its order book with the acquisition of 150 Boeing 737 MAX jets. This strategic investment underscores the robust growth trajectory of India’s civil aviation sector, signaling confidence in the market’s potential for expansion and development.

  • Air India inaugurates first A350 jet: In a landmark moment, Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, today officially inaugurated the nation’s and Air India’s first Airbus A350-900 aircraft at the ongoing Wings India 2024.
