Volz Servos GmbH to provide DA 26 actuators for Airbus SIRTAP UAS, enhancing safety and performance for tactical missions.

German actuator specialist Volz Servos GmbH has secured a contract with Airbus. They will supply actuators for Airbus’ SIRTAP tactical UAS. Specifically, Volz will provide DA 26 actuators for the air conditioning system of the Airbus SIRTAP drones.

The DA 26 actuator features a brushless motor and a contactless wear-free position sensor, ensuring maximum safety and reliability. Consequently, it offers an extended service life and optimal power delivery. Additionally, its design prevents electromagnetic emissions (EMI) that are typically caused by brush sparking.

Phillipp Volz, CEO, Volz, said, “We are extremely proud that Airbus has decided to rely on Volz Servos for the SIRTAP UAS project. This reinforces our conviction that our unique skill combination of agility and experience, high quality and reliability and not least certifiability is convincing even for big aviation players.”

The housing, made of saltwater-resistant aluminum, is treated with HART-coat for durability. Additionally, it meets the IP-67 standard for water and dust resistance. Furthermore, the housing features an integrated Sub-D connector, with a MIL-spec circular connector or cable gland available upon request. Integrated brackets allow for both horizontal and vertical assembly.

Phillipp Volz, CEO, Volz, added, “The DA 26 actuators are perfect for the control of SIRTAP air doors to ensure appropriate equipment environment due to the greatest-possible power delivery and maximum safety and reliability, guaranteed by a brushless motor and a contactless, wear free position sensor.”

The DA 26 actuators have undergone endurance testing exceeding 3 million cycles, equivalent to over 2,000 hours. Additionally, they have demonstrated proven performance in applications such as the Schiebel Camcopter S100. The SIRTAP’s dual applications will support a wide range of missions. These include day/night and maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, tailored to both institutional and governmental market needs.
