VoltAero plans Cassio aircraft assembly and MRO Hub in Malaysia

VoltAero has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Malaysia’s SEDC Energy (SEDCE) and France’s ACI Groupe to establish a regional assembly facility and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO0 capabilities for its Cassio electric-hybrid aircraft family in Sarawak, Malaysia.

The proposed facility will include local MRO capabilities for electric aircraft, creating an aftermarket support base for Cassio aircraft operating in the region. The partnership is aimed at supporting the development of electric-hybrid aviation across the Asia-Pacific region while establishing local aircraft production, maintenance and technical capabilities.

Under the agreement, SEDCE and ACI Groupe have also expressed interest in acquiring an equity stake in VoltAero as strategic investors. The investment is expected to support the broader partnership and the development of the planned aviation hub in Sarawak.

A key element of the collaboration is the establishment of a Cassio aircraft assembly facility, supported by local supply-chain development and technology transfer. The partners also plan to train technicians and engineers in both France and Malaysia to build regional expertise in electric-hybrid aircraft operations and support.

The partnership also includes plans for a pilot training academy and flight simulator, along with mobile charging solutions at regional airports and demonstration flights to support the introduction of electric-hybrid aviation.

ACI Groupe is expected to play a leading role in the early development of local supply chains, final assembly support and delivery operations. The SEDCE-ACI Groupe joint venture would also receive manufacturing and distribution rights for Cassio aircraft across the Asia-Pacific region.

VoltAero and its partners also intend to explore the development of hydrogen propulsion and sustainable fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biofuels, with strategic collaborators.

The Cassio family is being developed for regional passenger transport, air taxi and charter operations, private aviation, cargo, postal services and medical evacuation missions. The aircraft family is planned in three configurations: the Cassio 330 with up to five seats, the Cassio 480 with six seats and the Cassio 600 with 10 to 12 seats.

Sarawak hub would combine aircraft assembly, technical training, MRO and regional distribution, supporting VoltAero’s plans to expand its electric-hybrid aviation platform into the Asia-Pacific market.
