US Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey Programme reaches production milestone

Bell Textron and Boeing have completed the United States Marine Corps (USMC) MV-22 Osprey Programme of Record (POR), marking the delivery of the planned production fleet and signalling the programme’s transition towards long-term sustainment, readiness and modernization.

The milestone was commemorated during a ceremony at Bell’s Amarillo Assembly Center, where Bell and Boeing highlighted the programme’s next phase, which will focus on supporting the operational fleet and extending the aircraft’s service life.

The USMC operates the world’s largest V-22 Osprey fleet, with 359 MV-22 aircraft delivered. The tiltrotor platform combines the vertical lift capability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft, enabling a wide range of assault support, humanitarian and special operations missions.

“This milestone reflects the extraordinary dedication of the teams who design, build and support the V-22,” said Eldon Metzger, V-22 Program Director, Bell. “For the Marine Corps, this isn’t an end; it is a transition to the next chapter. The V-22 remains essential to future operations, and we are committed to delivering sustainment, readiness and modernization to ensure the aircraft continues to meet evolving mission requirements.”

According to the V-22 Joint Program Office, the completion of the Programme of Record marks an important step in maintaining fleet readiness while advancing capability upgrades. “The V-22 Osprey has extended the reach and operational effectiveness of the United States Marine Air-Ground Task Force for more than two decades,” said Colonel Robert Hurst, Program Manager, V-22 Joint Program Office. “Our focus remains on enhancing fleet readiness, capability and modernization to ensure the MV-22 continues serving as a critical asset for the Marine Corps in the decades ahead.”

Bell and Boeing said their efforts will now centre on fleet-wide sustainment, lifecycle support and modernization programmes, with the MV-22 expected to remain in service with the USMC until at least 2055.

The industry partnership supporting the V-22 programme comprises more than 500 U.S.-based suppliers and approximately 27,000 employees across 44 states. In addition to sustaining the Marine Corps fleet, Bell and Boeing continue to manufacture the CMV-22 variant for the U.S. Navy and are supporting the Nacelle Improvement modernization programme for the US Air Force’s CV-22 fleet.

“Accomplishing the Programme of Record reflects the hard work of the entire MV-22 team, including engineers, technicians and supplier partners,” said Danielle Hoelzer, V-22 Program Director, Boeing. “We remain committed to ensuring the fleet remains mission-ready through continued sustainment and modernization efforts.”
