Widerøe Airlines chooses Universal Avionics to enhance the FMS connectivity of Dash 8-400 aircraft.

Widerøe Airlines, the largest regional Scandinavian airline, has selected Universal Avionics to provide a fleet upgrade of the aircraft Dash 8-400’s connectivity with Flight Management System (FMS) increasing the efficiency and safety of the newly developed supplementary iPad applications.

Ole Støre, Chief Pilot Dash 8 fleet said, “The solution from Universal will help us streamline pilot workflows from briefing to reporting post flight across our diverse flight and maintenance ops, enabling seamless information exchange between our back-office operations and the flight management system on the aircraft. This will alleviate pilot workload by reducing data entry requirements such as flight plans and aircraft performance. In addition to benefits derived from flight data reporting, it will increase safety by allowing them to focus on departure and arrival tasks.”

Universal Avionics provides solutions to enhance interactions happening before, during, and post-flight between flight operators and flight management. Universal’s Connected Avionics Solutions uses the cyber-based, cyber-secure platform to provide avionics-based solutions and support services. With the help of FlightPartner, a study program and flight instructor operated through two-way communication and data exchange supports Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) features and smart flight planning and FlightReview, a performance and safety event reporting by recording end-of-flight analysis by FMS and flight recorder data. These combined Universal’s platforms seamlessly deliver FMS database, third-party applications, and content when needed as embodied by the selection of Widerøe Airlines.

“We are pleased to provide Widerøe with a package that will connect their operation to the information they need when they need it. We are helping regional airlines like Widerøe increase efficiency with our connected aircraft technologies,” said Dror Yahav, CEO of Universal Avionics.

Installation of the kit and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) would be provided by Canard Aerospace for Widrøe Airlines which enables the installation of equipment provided by Universal into the aircraft. The Supplemental Type certification is still under process and is expected to be completed by 3rd quarter of 2024.
