Pratt & Whitney has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tigerair Taiwan to supply GTF engines for 15 additional Airbus A321neo aircraft, supporting the airline’s fleet expansion plans and reinforcing their long-standing partnership.
The agreement covers four firm aircraft and 11 leased aircraft. Pratt & Whitney will also provide engine maintenance under a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive service agreement, offering predictable maintenance costs and improved operational efficiency. Deliveries of the aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2028.
Tigerair Taiwan currently operates a fleet of nine Airbus A320neo family aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and nine Airbus A320ceo aircraft equipped with IAE V2500 engines.

Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, said the latest order reflects the airline’s continued confidence in the GTF engine platform.
“This latest GTF order reaffirms Tigerair Taiwan’s trust in Pratt & Whitney, which exclusively powers the airline’s fleet. The GTF engine will continue to enable Tigerair Taiwan’s regional fleet expansion while delivering best-in-class fuel efficiency,” he said.
Joyce Huang, Chairperson of Tigerair Taiwan, said the airline’s latest fleet investment will support its next phase of growth.
“Pratt & Whitney has been a trusted partner since we began operations in 2014. Our new A321neo fleet, powered by the GTF engine, will advance our next phase of growth, as we continue to serve more passengers across more destinations with a lower cost per seat,” Huang said.
According to Pratt & Whitney, the GTF engine delivers up to 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared with previous-generation engines. More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently in service with over 90 operators worldwide, while the programme has accumulated an order backlog exceeding 8,000 engines, reflecting continued demand for the next-generation propulsion system.
The latest agreement further strengthens Pratt & Whitney’s presence in the Asia-Pacific market while supporting Tigerair Taiwan’s strategy to expand its regional network with more fuel-efficient and environmentally sustainable aircraft.
