Thales has announced the appointment of Robert Geckle as chief executive officer of Thales USA and Thales North America, effective July 1, 2026, succeeding Alan Pellegrini, who will retire from the role on June 30 after nearly two decades with the company. Geckle joins Thales following his tenure as Chairman and CEO of Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, bringing extensive leadership experience in the aerospace and defense sectors. In his new position, he will lead Thales’ operations and growth strategy across the United States and Canada, two key markets within the company’s global business portfolio.
The leadership transition comes after a period of significant expansion under Pellegrini’s direction. During his tenure, Thales North America strengthened its presence across aerospace, defense, digital identity and cybersecurity markets while enhancing its overall market position in the region. Although stepping down as CEO, Pellegrini will remain with the company through the end of 2026 to support a smooth transition.
“This is an exciting time for Thales,” said Geckle. “With a 130-year legacy in North America, and more than $5 billion in annual global R&D investment driving our innovation, we have a powerful platform for continued growth and investment in the region.”
Reflecting on his time with the company, Pellegrini said, “It has been a privilege to lead Thales North America and to work alongside talented colleagues, united by our shared purpose to build a future we can all trust. I am confident that the organization will continue to thrive under Rob’s leadership.”
Patrice Caine, CEO of Thales Group, praised Pellegrini’s contributions and expressed confidence in Geckle’s ability to lead the next phase of growth.
“North America is a key region for Thales’ global strategy,” said Caine. “Alan’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping Thales’ success in North America. We are grateful for his dedication, vision and many contributions to the company. Rob’s experience across advanced defense platforms and government-focused markets will be instrumental in driving further growth in North America.”
The appointment underscores Thales’ commitment to expanding its presence in North America as the company continues to invest in advanced technologies, innovation and strategic growth initiatives across the region.
