Texel Air expands regional MRO capabilities with San Marino line maintenance approval

Texel Air has further strengthened its international maintenance capabilities after securing a new line maintenance approval from the San Marino Civil Aviation Authority (SMCAA), enabling the Bahrain-based MRO provider to offer certified maintenance support for Boeing 737 Classic/NG and Airbus A320 family aircraft registered under the San Marino aircraft registry. The approval expands the company’s portfolio of international regulatory certifications and enhances its ability to support operators transiting the Gulf region.

The newly granted approval falls within the scope of Texel Air’s existing EASA Part-145 certification and authorises the company to perform line maintenance at its facilities at Bahrain International Airport. By adding the SMCAA approval to its existing maintenance approvals, Texel Air is positioning itself to provide broader support to commercial airlines and operators seeking certified maintenance services across one of the world’s busiest aviation corridors.

The latest certification marks another step in Texel Air’s long-term strategy of expanding its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities to meet the evolving requirements of international aircraft operators. With airlines increasingly looking for flexible and geographically strategic maintenance partners, the approval enables Texel Air to offer greater operational flexibility to Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 operators flying through the Middle East while ensuring compliance with international regulatory standards.

Operating from Bahrain International Airport, Texel Air’s maintenance facility comprises a 6,200-square-metre aircraft hangar complemented by 19,000 square metres of dedicated aircraft parking and apron space. The infrastructure enables the company to support both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements for commercial, cargo, private and business aviation operators. Strategically located between Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, the facility serves as an important maintenance hub for operators flying across multiple international markets.

Commenting on the achievement, Shaun Du Plessis, Chief Operating Officer, Texel Air, said the approval represents another significant milestone in the company’s ongoing MRO expansion strategy.

“This approval from the San Marino Civil Aviation Authority is another important milestone in the continued expansion of our MRO capabilities. By adding San Marino-approved line maintenance to our existing approvals, we can provide even greater support and flexibility to operators transiting Bahrain. Our team has invested heavily in facilities, tooling and technical capability, and we remain committed to delivering responsive, high-quality maintenance services to customers across the region.”

The company also acknowledged the efforts of its Technical Services, Quality and Compliance teams, whose work in meeting stringent regulatory requirements played a key role in securing the approval. Their continued focus on safety, quality assurance and regulatory compliance has enabled Texel Air to steadily broaden its maintenance capabilities while maintaining internationally recognised operational standards.

Texel Air currently provides a wide range of aircraft maintenance services, including line and heavy maintenance support for Boeing and Airbus aircraft serving the commercial, cargo, private and business aviation sectors. In addition to maintenance activities, the company offers short- and long-term aircraft parking, technical support and specialist aviation services from its dedicated hangar and apron complex in Bahrain. The addition of the SMCAA approval further strengthens its ability to serve a growing international customer base while reinforcing Bahrain’s position as an emerging regional MRO hub.

This latest approval reflects the continued expansion of Texel Air’s international regulatory footprint and underscores the growing importance of strategically located, multi-approved MRO providers in supporting airline operations amid rising demand for reliable and flexible maintenance services across the Middle East and beyond.
