Swisslog automates logistics at Saudi Aviation MRO facility

Starlinks has selected Swisslog to provide warehouse automation for a new aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Saudi Arabia.

The programme is part of a wider supply chain solution being delivered by Starlinks for an aviation company in the Middle East. The facility will support aircraft maintenance activities and spare-parts logistics in Saudi Arabia and the wider region.

Starlinks is responsible for supply chain design, automation planning and implementation, while Swisslog will provide warehouse automation systems and software for inventory storage, material handling and distribution.

Alexander Komianos, Managing Director UAE & Solutions at Starlinks, stated, “Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in aviation, logistics and industrial capabilities. These developments require supply chains that can scale efficiently and support increasingly demanding operations.”

The system will combine a high-density AutoStore system with pallet automation and Swisslog’s SynQ software platform. The configuration will handle small MRO spare parts and palletised inventory within the facility.

AutoStore will provide automated storage for smaller components using bins arranged in a modular grid. Robots operating above the grid will retrieve the required bins for handling and processing.

The pallet-handling system will include an automated storage and retrieval system using Swisslog Vectura stacker cranes, ProMove pallet conveyors, a pallet shuttle car, inbound transport systems and picking stations.

Rami Younes, General Manager at Swisslog Middle East, said, “The combination of AutoStore technology, pallet automation and SynQ software will help ensure high inventory availability, efficient use of space and reliable material flow.”

SynQ software will manage inventory and material-flow processes across the automated systems. The system will link receiving, inspection, storage, and order fulfilment activities.

The project will provide automated storage and material-handling infrastructure for aircraft materials and spare parts at the new MRO facility.
