Enhancing Customer-Centric Approaches

A pivotal change involves the appointment of Tony Roach as Senior Vice President & Chief Customer Officer. With over two decades of experience at Southwest Airlines, Roach has been instrumental in driving transformative changes, including establishing a Customer Experience corporate function and leading the Southwest Promise, the company’s COVID response program. In his new role, Roach will oversee Marketing, Customer Experience, Digital Experience, Travel Products, Customer Engagement, Customer Support & Services, and Innovation.

This customer-centric realignment places Roach in a key position to enhance the end-to-end customer experience, aligning with Southwest’s commitment to providing exceptional service. Roach and the Customer organization will continue to report to Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green, who will now report to Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson. This integration tightens the feedback loop between Commercial and Operational functions, fostering synergy between the two critical aspects of the airline’s business.

Cultivating a People-First Culture

To fortify its commitment to its employees, Elizabeth Bryant advances to Senior Vice President & Chief People Officer. With a career at Southwest Airlines spanning since 1997, Bryant has played a crucial role in transformative initiatives, including training centralization and the integration of AirTran Employees into the Southwest organization. In her elevated role, she will provide executive leadership for People (Human Resources), Talent & Leadership Development, Total Rewards (Benefits and Compensation), and Southwest Airlines University.

Strategic Communications and Brand Positioning

In recognition of the importance of transparent communication and brand building, Whitney Eichinger assumes the role of Senior Vice President & Chief Communications Officer. With nearly two decades of experience shaping engagement and memorable experiences for Southwest’s customers and employees, Eichinger will lead Culture & Communications. In this role, she will differentiate the Southwest brand for internal and external audiences through transparent and creative communication, community support, and fostering a highly engaged workforce.

Harnessing Data and Artificial Intelligence for Future Growth

Acknowledging the critical role of data and artificial intelligence in the aviation industry’s future, Angela Marano joins as Vice President Artificial Intelligence & Data Transformation. In this newly established role, Marano will harmonize efforts from teams responsible for data science, automation, and artificial intelligence. She will also play a crucial role in creating an information governance practice, incorporating the Data Privacy Office.

Navigating Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Initiatives

Jason Van Eaton assumes the role of Senior Vice President & Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. Formerly in charge of Governmental Affairs & Real Estate, Van Eaton will now manage legislative and regulatory policy, airport relationships, facility construction and maintenance, corporate security, and real estate planning. His extensive experience in legislative and regulatory policy, combined with his tenure at Southwest, positions him well for this crucial role.
