RUAG expands services in Payerne’s military airfield for Swiss Air Force

19 May 2020: RUAG Ltd and Swiss Air Force have partnered to work on the construction of a new location on Payerne’s military airfield for the annual five heavy maintenance checks on F/A-18. Apart from this various small heavy maintenance checks will also be carried out. The plant is expected to be ready for operations by March 2021. Currently six employees are stationed in Payerne, with the expansion of the facility 12 new jobs will created.

Payerne’s airfield is the headquarters for the Air Force’s fighter aircraft and is mainly responsible for the air police. It records approximately 7,000 F/A-18 movements per year. Thus due to the strategic location, the efficiency and effectiveness of the provision of services can be improved to the benefit of the Air Force, with both the partners getting advantage of the deal.

With the expansion of the Payerne airfield, the need for large heavy maintenance checks at the Emmen headquarters will narrow down significantly thereby allowing the RUAG Ltd’s aircraft maintenance employees in Emmen to focus even more on the restructuring program when working on the F/A-18.
