Pratt & Whitney Canada and TAAG Angola Airlines E.P., have signed a six-year FMP contract providing engine MRO services for TAAG’s PW150A engines powering their fleet of ATR Dash 8-400 regional turboprop aircraft.

Pratt & Whitney Canada, a RTX Company and TAAG Angola Airlines E.P., the state-owned airline of Angola, have signed a six-year Fleet Management Program (FMP) contract. This contract provides engine maintenance services for TAAG’s PW150A engines, which power their fleet of ATR Dash 8-400 regional turboprop aircraft. The contract is structured to allow Pratt & Whitney to tailor coverage to TAAG’s specific operating conditions. Pratt & Whitney operates under the RTX business umbrella.

The program includes Pratt & Whitney’s proprietary oil-analysis technology and its FAST diagnostic and prognostic solution. It captures, analyzes, and transmits comprehensive flight data intelligence to the customer within minutes of engine shutdown.

“Airlines that provide regional connectivity such as TAAG play a vital role in helping customers travel to major urban centers, often for connections to international destinations,” said Irene Makris, vice president, Customer Service, Pratt & Whitney Canada. “Consequently, the dispatch reliability of regional aircraft plays a critical role in keeping the entire ecosystem operating efficiently and economically. By maintaining TAAG’s PW150A engines we are helping to ensure optimal aircraft availability and engine asset management,” he further added.

Fleet Management Programs offered by Pratt & Whitney are adaptable and cost-effective maintenance planning solutions. They help reduce operating expenses and streamline fleet operations management. Designed to meet the specific needs of fleet operators and airlines, Pratt & Whitney’s FMPs allow customers to focus on their core business while removing the hassles of operating a maintenance facility.

“With a roughly 75-passenger capacity, optimal fuel efficiency, and overall reliability, the PW150A-powered Dash 8-400 fits our needs,” said Nelson de Oliveira, CEO, TAAG Airlines.“P&WC’s FMP program is ideal for us as we can rely on the proven expertise of the engine original equipment manufacturer to ensure we gain maximum productivity and efficiency from our PW150A engines,” he further added.

The PW100/PW150 engine family powers a vast majority—90%—of regional turboprop aircraft with seating capacities of 30 to 90 passengers. These engines are known for their fuel efficiency, consuming 25 to 40% less fuel and emitting 50% fewer CO2 emissions than similar-sized regional jets. They also offer airlines preferred life cycle costs, which contribute to maintaining the value of the aircraft. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the entry into service of the PW100/PW150 engine family, demonstrating the long-term reliability and performance in the aviation industry.
