Romanian Army acquires Bayraktar TB2 Drones
In early August 2022, the Ministry of National Defense sought Parliament's approval to purchase three Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aircraft systems, each comprising six aircraft, for a total value of approximately USD 321 million.

The Romanian Land Forces have initiated the reception procedures for their first Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aircraft system recently, the Ministry of Defense (MApN) announced. Once this stage is completed, anticipated for late June or early July, Romanian pilots will commence their training flights. The standard configuration of a Bayraktar TB2 system comprises six unmanned aircraft, supplemented by essential command and control equipment. This setup ensures comprehensive operational capabilities, facilitating readiness for various missions.

The Ministry said “The acquisition of Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) contributes to achieving the objectives of the Transformation Program of the Romanian Army until 2040 and aims to implement the Capability Targets of our country within the NATO defense planning process.”

Unmanned aircraft of this type have demonstrated their effectiveness in combat missions, according to the same source. Notably, their primary advantages include very high flight endurance, up to 24 hours depending on the load, and the capability for extended area surveillance.
