Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance signs multi-engine sale and leaseback with ITA Airways

Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance (RRPF) has signed a milestone multi-engine financing agreement with Italy’s national carrier ITA Airways, further strengthening its presence in the aviation engine leasing market while supporting the airline’s ongoing fleet modernisation programme.

The transaction combines engine sale and leaseback arrangements with long-term engine leasing, providing ITA Airways with additional operational flexibility while optimising fleet asset management.

Under the agreement, RRPF will acquire and lease back one Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine, one Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine and one PW1500G engine. In addition, the company will provide ITA Airways with the long-term lease of five Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines, supporting the airline’s expanding narrowbody fleet requirements.

The deal reflects the growing role of specialised engine leasing and financing solutions as airlines increasingly seek flexible asset management strategies while preserving capital and ensuring engine availability for fleet operations.

Ileana Sannibale, Vice President Fleet at ITA Airways, said the agreement supports the airline’s long-term fleet development plans. “We are pleased to partner with RRPF on this transaction, which supports ITA Airways’ fleet development and operational flexibility. I would also like to acknowledge the valuable contribution of our Fleet and Technical Procurement team, together with our Legal, Tax and Operations teams, whose expertise and collaboration were key to reaching this agreement.”

Jaime Nieto, Chief Commercial Officer at Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance, said the company remains focused on supporting customers through tailored engine financing solutions. “We are delighted to be supporting ITA’s ambitious growth and fleet modernisation strategy through this transaction. This agreement reflects RRPF’s partnership approach with customers and our commitment to providing diverse engine solutions across multiple aircraft platforms.”

The agreement highlights the increasing importance of engine leasing within the global aviation aftermarket as airlines continue to balance fleet expansion, operational resilience and financial efficiency. With mixed fleets powered by different engine types becoming increasingly common, flexible financing structures are emerging as a critical tool for maintaining engine availability while reducing capital expenditure.

For Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance, the transaction further strengthens its position in the engine leasing sector by expanding its portfolio across multiple engine platforms and reinforcing long-term partnerships with airline customers pursuing modern fleet renewal programmes.
