Qantas Group makes new leadership appointments.
The size of the GMC will increase by one, with a total of 13 members, while maintaining dedicated CEOs for key business units.

These senior executives of Qantas Group will report directly to Vanessa Hudson, the incoming Group CEO, who will assume her new role in November 2023.

The Qantas Group has announced a series of changes to its Group Management Committee (GMC) as part of its CEO transition and ongoing commitment to renewal. These changes involve senior appointments, structural adjustments, and a heightened focus on areas of significant investment, such as human resources and customer experience. Further announcements regarding the appointments to the vacant positions will be made once finalized. These senior executives will report directly to Vanessa Hudson, the incoming Group CEO, who will assume her new role in November 2023.

One of the notable changes is the creation of a dedicated Chief People Officer role, which will consolidate the human resources and industrial relations functions. This move is in line with the Group’s projection of generating 8,500 new jobs in Australia over the next decade and its emphasis on training programs due to the acquisition of new aircraft. The search for an executive to fill this role is currently underway.

In addition, Rob Marcolina, the current Qantas Group Executive of Strategy, People, and Technology, will assume the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), which will also encompass responsibility for Strategy and Transformation. This change is prompted by the impending transition of the current CFO, Vanessa Hudson, to the Group CEO role. Marcolina, who has been with the Group since 2012, brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the business.

Another significant appointment is Markus Svensson as the new CEO of Qantas Domestic, following the retirement of Andrew David in September. Svensson, the current Chief Customer Officer, has served Qantas for over a decade and possesses extensive expertise across various domains, including revenue management, network operations, sales, alliances, offshore operations, and strategy.

Catriona Larritt, currently Executive Manager of Qantas Freight and former Chief Commercial Officer at Jetstar, will take on the role of Chief Customer and Digital Officer. In addition to customer experience, this portfolio will encompass technology, recognizing the vital role of digital innovation in enhancing customer satisfaction. Larritt has been with the Group since 2015 and has contributed significantly to its success.

Furthermore, QantasLink will see a leadership change, with the retirement of current CEO John Gissing in November after a remarkable 25-year tenure within the Qantas Group. The search for a successor is currently underway, and the new CEO will be responsible for overseeing regional and certain charter market operations. Gissing will remain available to the Group CEO as an advisor for an additional 12 months.

To bolster risk management and governance, the Group will establish a Chief Risk Officer position to provide comprehensive oversight across the organization. Andrew Monaghan, the current Executive Manager of Safety, will assume this critical role. With his extensive operational experience and 17-year career at the Group, including roles as Chief Operating Officer for Qantas and QantasLink, Monaghan is well-suited for this new responsibility.
