PM will lay foundation stone for HAL in January first week

During the first week of January, the foundation stone for Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd’s (HAL) chopper facility will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Gubbi taluk in Tumakuru and the date yet to be confirmed.

In a statement, HAL chairman TS Raju said that AL Chairman TS Raju said that the Karnataka government has allotted 610 acres of land in Tumakuru and they are planning for a manufacturing and MRO activities for Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and other rotary wing platforms at this place and also it will create direct and indirect employment for many people.

As per the schedule, HAL planning to roll out first flight-worthy chopper from this facility before 2019. At a media gathering in January this year, HAL chairman RK Tyagi said that the project will take-off within 24 months of foundation-stone-laying and the first priority should be boundary wall across 16 km and there will be usage of new technology. “We will also need to create a township there for our employees as travelling from Bengaluru would not be viable,’ Tygai had said.
