The Rodeo Renewed project has been designed to enable the production of renewable jet fuel, a crucial component of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with the capability expected to come online in the second quarter of 2024.

Phillips 66 has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing conversion of the San Francisco refinery into the Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex, marking a major step forward in the production of renewable diesel on a commercial scale. The Rodeo Renewed project has made substantial progress, with the facility now exclusively processing renewable feedstocks and churning out approximately 30,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel. This development positions the Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex to ramp up production rates to over 800 million gallons per year (equivalent to 50,000 barrels per day) of renewable fuels by the conclusion of the second quarter, firmly establishing Phillips 66 as a frontrunner in the realm of renewable fuels.

Moreover, the Rodeo Renewed project has been designed to enable the production of renewable jet fuel, a crucial component of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This capability is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2024, further solidifying Phillips 66’s position as a leader in the renewable fuels market.

Rich Harbison, Executive Vice President of Refining, Phillips 66 said, “We are proud to announce this significant achievement at our Rodeo facility. The project advances Phillips 66’s long-held strategy to expand our renewable fuels production, lower our carbon footprint, and provide reliable, affordable energy while creating long-term value for our shareholders. We’ve had strong execution to-date and are fully focused on finalizing the project in the second quarter.”

The decision to proceed with the Rodeo Renewed project was made by Phillips 66 in 2022, marking a transformative step in converting the San Francisco refinery into one of the largest renewable fuels facilities globally. Leveraging premium geographic positioning, unique processing infrastructure, and flexible logistics, the converted facility is poised to significantly reduce lifecycle carbon emissions while serving as a premier supplier of renewable fuels.
