Paraguayan Air Force receives first military Cessna SkyCourier in South America

The Paraguayan Air Force has received a Cessna SkyCourier, becoming the first South American military operator of the turboprop as it expands its capability for medical evacuation, humanitarian aid, and multi-mission operations.

Funded by Itaipu Binacional, the aircraft joins Paraguay’s existing fleet of Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft and will support missions to remote areas across the country.

The SkyCourier is designed for high-utilisation operations and combines a large payload capacity with relatively low operating and maintenance requirements. Its twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65SC engines, Garmin G1000 NXi avionics and rugged airframe provide a platform suited to cargo, passenger and special-mission roles.

SkyCourier adds multi-mission support capability

The aircraft will be used for medical evacuations, patient transport, disaster relief and humanitarian missions. Its ability to operate with a single pilot and accommodate substantial payloads provides the Paraguayan Air Force with additional flexibility for missions where access to remote regions is required.

From an MRO perspective, the introduction of the SkyCourier adds a new aircraft type to Paraguay’s military fleet, creating requirements for technician training, tooling, spare-parts support, inspections, and engine maintenance. The aircraft’s PT6A-65SC engines also bring established turboprop maintenance requirements that can be incorporated into the operator’s existing technical infrastructure.

Textron Aviation highlights the SkyCourier’s cost-effective maintenance and global service network as part of its support proposition. For Paraguay, access to this support network will be important as the aircraft accumulates flight hours across frequent humanitarian and special-mission operations.

The SkyCourier therefore expands Paraguay’s operational capability while establishing a new maintenance and lifecycle-support requirement around the country’s first military aircraft of the type.
