PAL Aerospace has secured a contract with Air Greenland to missionize two DHC-8-200 aircraft for Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) operations, strengthening Greenland’s surveillance capabilities in the Arctic.
The programme covers aircraft modification, configuration, mission systems integration and associated support activities, with the aircraft being tailored to meet Air Greenland’s specific operational requirements. PAL Aerospace will also integrate mission systems and software designed to enhance the collection, coordination and management of operational information during maritime surveillance missions.
As part of the agreement, PAL Aerospace will provide comprehensive lifecycle support for the aircraft throughout their service life. This includes technical and software support, training, future aircraft modifications, supply chain management and scheduled maintenance to ensure continued operational readiness and alignment with Air Greenland’s evolving mission requirements.
Simon Carroll, President of PAL Aerospace, said the company brings extensive experience in conducting special mission operations in challenging northern environments. He noted that expertise gained through its own northern operations and collaborative missions with the Netherlands Coastguard in the North Sea will help deliver a capability tailored to Greenland’s unique operational needs.
Air Greenland CEO Jacob Nitter Sørensen said the partnership combines the airline’s decades of Arctic operational experience with PAL Aerospace’s expertise in special mission aircraft. He added that the programme will establish a modern surveillance capability operated from Greenland while fostering local expertise and creating long-term value for the country and the wider Arctic region.
The contract reinforces PAL Aerospace’s position in the special mission aviation sector while supporting the development of enhanced maritime surveillance capabilities through aircraft modification, systems integration and long-term sustainment services.
