Norse Atlantic Airways signs ACMI deal with PIA for two Boeing 787-9s

Norse Atlantic Airways has signed an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) agreement with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for two Boeing 787-9 aircraft, supporting the Pakistani carrier’s plans to expand long-haul services between the United Kingdom and Pakistan.

Operations under the agreement are expected to begin in early November 2026, connecting multiple destinations across both countries. Under the arrangement, Norse Atlantic will provide the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance, enabling PIA to increase capacity without directly adding the aircraft to its own fleet.

The agreement will also introduce Boeing 787 Dreamliners to PIA’s passenger operations, adding capacity to meet demand for direct air travel between Pakistan and the UK.

For Norse Atlantic, the contract represents an opportunity to redeploy aircraft previously assigned to another ACMI operation while expanding its wet-lease business. The airline is pursuing a strategy that combines scheduled passenger services with charter and ACMI operations to improve fleet utilisation and diversify revenue streams.

ACMI agreements allow airlines to secure additional capacity without taking on the full operational and ownership commitments associated with acquiring and operating aircraft independently. For carriers such as PIA, the arrangement offers flexibility to expand services in response to demand, while the provider supplies the aircraft and operational support.

Norse Atlantic has increasingly focused on ACMI operations as a way to generate more predictable revenue and reduce its exposure to fluctuations in passenger demand and fuel prices. The airline said it is also in discussions with other international carriers about potential ACMI opportunities.

Financial terms and the duration of the agreement with PIA have not been disclosed.
