Nice Côte d’Azur to deploy an automatic robot that emits virucidal UV light

3 June 2020: The post COVID-19 pandemic phase is starting across the globe and the aviation industry is very cautiously opening up with stringent safety precautions in place. Various airport terminals across the world have taken steps to ensure hygienic and sanitary measures to ensure a safe travel for passengers. Airports across the world have made social distancing, health certificates and wearing of masks as a compulsory norm for safe travel.

Going a step forward, France’s second-largest airport Nice Côte d’Azur has deployed an automatic robot that emits virucidal UV light. This robot is used across the terminal to administer a shock treatment that destroys almost 100 per cent of the bacteria and viruses present in the air or on the treated surfaces. After successful tests in the airport on 28 April and 7 May, the robot is now a prerequisite for the reopening of the terminal.

In our worldwide analysis of the available options, our top priority has been to identify the best practices in order to offer the healthiest possible conditions to our passengers, our employees and everyone who works in our infrastructures”, states Dominique Thillaud, Chairman of the Board of Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur.

Apart from this, the airport will also deploy disinfection agents in special clothing apart from the normal cleaning staff. These agents will work with special virucidal surface disinfectants. Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed all along the passenger routes, near the self-service registration terminals for passengers and their luggage and at the screening stations. Also the terminal ventilation networks will be upgraded with the high-performance filtration of indoor air.
