N3 Engine Overhaul Services has achieved a major milestone in its nearly two-decade journey by completing its 2,000th aircraft engine overhaul, underscoring the company’s continued growth and reinforcing its position as one of the world’s leading maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) providers for Rolls-Royce Trent engines.
The landmark engine, a Rolls-Royce Trent XWB, has been returned to service with Lufthansa, symbolising the long-standing collaboration between N3’s shareholders, Rolls-Royce and Lufthansa Technik, and one of its key airline customers. The achievement marks almost 20 years since the company’s first engine induction in 2007 and highlights the success of a partnership that has steadily expanded its technical capabilities to support the growing global fleet of Rolls-Royce-powered aircraft.
Today, N3 employs more than 1,300 highly skilled professionals at its Arnstadt facility, providing overhaul services for the Rolls-Royce Trent engine family that powers several of the world’s leading long-haul aircraft, including the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. As airlines continue to restore capacity and expand international operations, demand for engine maintenance has increased significantly, placing greater emphasis on MRO providers capable of delivering high-quality, reliable and timely overhaul services.
To meet this growing demand, N3 is continuing to invest in expanding its infrastructure, introducing new technologies and increasing overhaul capacity. The company aims to raise annual output to more than 270 engine overhauls, strengthening its ability to support airline customers while contributing to the resilience of the global aviation supply chain.
“The 2,000th engine represents far more than just a number. It reflects everything we have built together over the past almost 20 years—a company we can all be proud of,” said Holger Sindemann, Chief Executive Officer, N3 Engine Overhaul Services.
“Above all, this milestone belongs to our outstanding team. With passion, expertise and exceptional commitment, our more than 1,300 employees ensure every single day that airlines around the world can rely on the highest standards of quality and reliability.”
Sindemann added that the milestone also serves as a catalyst for the company’s next phase of growth as N3 continues expanding its site and capabilities to support the increasing maintenance requirements of the global aviation industry.
Echoing this sentiment, Stefan Landes, Chief Financial Officer, N3 Engine Overhaul Services, said the company remains focused on increasing overhaul capacity beyond 270 engines annually, enabling it to play an even greater role in supporting reliable global air transport.
For Rolls-Royce, the milestone reflects the importance of strengthening aftermarket capacity at a time when airlines worldwide continue to face engine shop constraints, longer turnaround times and increasing maintenance demand.
“Reaching 2,000 overhauled engines at N3 is a significant milestone and one we are incredibly proud of,” said Maria Deacon, Director Aftermarket Operations, Rolls-Royce.
“It reflects the strength of our partnership with Lufthansa and, above all, the expertise and dedication of the N3 team, who tackle complex challenges every day to deliver the best possible support for our customers.”
She noted that expanding MRO capacity remains a key element of Rolls-Royce’s broader aftermarket transformation strategy. Investments in new technologies, operational improvements and additional capacity at N3 are helping reduce turnaround times, improve on-time engine deliveries and maximise engine availability for operators worldwide.
Lufthansa also highlighted the importance of dependable engine maintenance in ensuring reliable airline operations. “For Lufthansa and our passengers, the reliability of our fleet is of paramount importance. That is why we rely on strong and capable partners such as N3,” said Francesco Sciortino, Member of the Executive Board, Lufthansa Airlines.
“Quality, on-time delivery and technological expertise are essential to ensuring safe and reliable flight operations. The fact that our Trent XWB is the 2,000th engine to leave the N3 shop underlines the close and trusted partnership we have built over many years.”
Established as a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce, N3 Engine Overhaul Services has grown into one of the world’s premier overhaul facilities for the Rolls-Royce Trent engine family. Since commencing operations in 2007, the company has continuously expanded its workforce, facilities and technical capabilities to keep pace with the rapid growth of the global widebody fleet.

The 2,000-engine milestone comes at a time when the global engine MRO sector is experiencing unprecedented demand driven by fleet expansion, extended engine utilisation, supply chain constraints and limited shop capacity. Against this backdrop, N3’s continued investments in infrastructure, digital technologies and workforce development are strategically positioning the company to support airlines with faster turnaround times, greater engine availability and enhanced operational resilience.
As the aviation industry continues its recovery and long-haul traffic strengthens, the expansion of engine overhaul capacity at specialised facilities such as N3 will play an increasingly critical role in supporting fleet reliability and ensuring the sustainability of global airline operations.
