MTU Maintenance Zhuhai and Malaysia Aviation Group established an on-site engine services facility for CFM56-5B and -7B engines, with the potential for additional engine models.

MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, a prominent engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) company in Asia, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with MAB Engineering, a subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG). The agreement outlines their collaboration to establish an on-site engine services facility with a focus on CFM International’s CFM56-5B and -7B engines, with the potential for additional engine models in the future.

Under this agreement, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai will provide technical expertise and guidance to support the project’s management, offering consultation on qualifications, certifications, tooling, and facility layout design. Additionally, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai will provide training for MAB Engineering’s employees, ensuring they are well-versed in a range of work scopes for the specified engine models.

Gert Wagner, President and CEO, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai said, “MTU’s location in China has broad experience and a strong foundation in the field through its ON-SITEPlus services. The past few years, in particular, saw a significant rise in the demand for smaller on- and near-wing work scopes. Although aviation is a big industry, it still tends to be a small community, so we enjoy partnering up and exchanging knowledge, especially with a long-time partner such as the Malaysia Aviation Group. It is an absolute pleasure to be working with them on this project.”

Gert Wagner, President and CEO of MTU Maintenance Zhuhai added the project, in which  MTU Maintenance is assisting MAB Engineering, is a win for the aviation industry in Asia. This collaborative project reflects the commitment of both companies to advancing the aviation industry in the Asia-Pacific region and enhancing engine maintenance capabilities in the area. It builds upon MTU Maintenance Zhuhai’s established experience and reputation in on- and near-wing work scopes, further contributing to the industry’s growth.

Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri, Chief Executive Officer, Aviation Services said, “MTU has a successful history of collaborations and partnerships, and through our own experience utilizing their MRO services over the years, we know we are in good hands. We look forward to working closely together to further enhance MAB Engineering’s capabilities in becoming a preferred one-stop aircraft MRO service provider in the region.”

Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri, CEO of Aviation Services at Malaysia Aviation Group, highlighted MTU Maintenance’s globally recognized expertise and the mutual benefits of adopting its high standards within MAB Engineering’s MRO operations.
