Boeing and Luxair have announced that the Luxembourg-based carrier has converted two options for the Boeing 737-10 into firm orders and secured options for two additional 737-10 aircraft, advancing its long-term fleet modernisation strategy.
The latest agreement builds on Luxair’s 2024 commitment for two Boeing 737-10 aircraft and will expand the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet as it prepares for future growth. Once all firm orders are delivered, Luxair will operate a fleet of 12 Boeing 737 aircraft, comprising eight 737-8s and four 737-10s.
Luxair said the additional purchase rights provide flexibility to adjust fleet expansion in line with future market demand while benefiting from the operational commonality of the Boeing 737 family.
“This agreement represents another important milestone in the execution of our long-term fleet strategy,” said Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair. “As we continue to grow, delivering an outstanding passenger experience remains at the heart of every fleet decision we make. The Boeing 737-10 provides the additional capacity, operational efficiency and flexibility we need to support future demand while maintaining the high standards of quality, comfort and service our customers expect from Luxair.”
Feith added that the aircraft’s improved environmental performance also aligns with the airline’s sustainability goals.
“With 20 percent lower fuel use and emissions compared with the aircraft they replace, these aircraft also support our ambition to further reduce our environmental footprint while strengthening Luxembourg’s connectivity,” he said. “The additional purchase rights also preserve valuable strategic flexibility, allowing us to adapt our fleet in line with future market developments and customer demand.”
According to Boeing, both the 737-8 and 737-10 reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 20% compared with the previous-generation aircraft they replace. Each new-generation 737 is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by as much as 8 million pounds annually while also lowering noise levels during take-offs and landings.
The Boeing 737-10, the largest member of the 737 MAX family, can accommodate up to 230 passengers and offers a range of 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 km). Boeing said the aircraft delivers the best per-seat economics of any single-aisle aircraft.
“Both the 737-8 and 737-10 are perfectly suited across Luxair‘s network, increasing capacity on its regional routes while serving more passengers with the lowest cost per seat of any single-aisle airplane,” said Ricardo Cavero, Vice President, Europe and Israel Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing. “With the selection of the 737-8 and 737-10, Luxair is building a more profitable and sustainable operation.”
Luxair’s 737-10 aircraft will be configured with 213 seats and deployed on high-demand leisure and business routes. The cabins will feature Boeing Sky Interior styling, redesigned seats with a 76 cm seat pitch, USB-C charging ports at every seat and wireless in-flight entertainment accessible through passengers’ personal devices.
The aircraft will be powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines, combining increased passenger capacity with improved fuel efficiency, quieter operations and enhanced passenger comfort.
